Adventure part 1... Stuck on a motorway

Aloha ohana!

Sunday was supposed to be a grand adventure to Cumbria! For those who are Geographically challenged, that's in the north of England. Not Africa as my sister thought. You'll get to meet the reason of the adventure in part two! So off we went trundling along, keeping within the speed limit mind you, with not a care in the world other than who could see the Eddie Stobart lorries first.

Then. Disaster. "Phone your dad, the oil lights come on, will I need to stop?" Said Mum
"No! No! No! Stop the car! Pull over!" Said Dad.

It was raining, we were standing looking all the cars heading to their destinations thinking that our little adventure had reached its end.

But we were not to be beaten! All you need to keep yourself occupied on the side of the motorway is a decent knowledge of song lyrics and the general grasp of eye spy. Boom. Nobody can hear you belting out songs from "Summer of 69" by Bryan Adams to "Zero to Hero" from Disney's Hercules.

By the time the AA man arrived we were giggling and smiling and fully emerged in our little adventure without a care for the fact that it was raining and we'd got soaked and it was windy. It might not have been what we had planned, but without that little issue with the car (it was fine by the way, turns out our car has an oil light to tell you that the oil light will soon be coming on...point?!?) then we would never have been able to have our odd little underpaid busking session by the side of a motorway and we would never have played the most intense competitive game of eye spy!

Just because an adventure doesn't go as planned, doesn't make it any less of an adventure. We had the best time in part 1, and I'll tell you all about part two next time! Until then!

Much love,

Look at poor Max :( with his stoopid extra oil light!

About a book.

Hello there my dear blog,

I'm back to haunt your beautiful interface with a story. Probably a rather boring story, with an almost cliché moral for an ending, but we can blame that on the lack of creative zeal!

The story begins with a very troubled girl at 2am. Now this girl isn't really the main focus of this tale, more of a sub-character. A vessel for plot development if you will ;). Anywhooooo! This girl had a sudden wave of complete and utter panic. The kind of panic she would feel if she had 5 exams the next on on subjects she had never attended the classes or lectures for and only found out about them then and had no materials to study with and if she didn't get at least 80% she would get kicked out the course. Yup. (Long sentence much??) so she came downstairs. And she hugged her rabbit. And she tried not to cry. And then she saw a book. There it was just sitting under the curling wand(s) and the crimpers and the straighteners.

Now bearing in mind that it was one of her favourite books ever the brilliant idea to "read the first couple of chapters to calm herself down" popped into existence and so off she went.

Not the neatest cover you'll ever see, but it was the copy available at the time. Alone on a Wide Wide Sea - Michael Morpurgo.
She cried. ALOT. She wiped the tears away and told herself she was being silly, then she cried some more. Then told herself she was being silly... Yadda yadda you get the idea, no?

Until during one moment, a bloomin' brilliant moment in the book, she realised exactly what she needed to realise. And she wasn't quite so panicked. Yeah she still cried at the remaining sad bits but that was okay. Because they were sad. She wasn't crying for herself anymore, she was crying for the characters she had re-fallen in love with. She was crying for a story she already knew the ending of. And most importantly she was crying for the brilliant work of art that had drawn her in and had made her stop and think. It had made her see what she needed to tell herself.

I'm sure anyone reading this will have experienced panic or anxiety at some point in their lives. That girl is probably experiencing it more often than she'd like to admit. Nothing anyone can say or do, can really make it go away. It has to be you. By all means they could help, but the only person who can tell it to STOP is you.

She didn't have a person to help her tell it to stop. She had words written on a page, by a man who has never, and probably will never know who she is. He didn't make her explain herself to him. He didn't even care really. All he did was tell her a story. A story about loss and finding things. A story about happiness and sadness. And most importantly, a story about the stormy sea that is life. It turns out that those words did more for her than she had ever expected. By the time she had reached the end of the book, the horrible feeling she had was easing. She had lost herself and found herself through the power of those words.

Now I know, that my words are not as powerful, or eloquent a the words in that story. But they are words none the less, and words are one of the most powerful things, I think, exists.

I'll post this little(ish) story (or rambling of a sleep deprived, emotionally drained individual) and I'll probably regret it a little bit. However in all it's in-eloquence it has one thing going for it! It's just another example of the many out there about the importance of reading. I've read all my life. Reading has always been important but this was a different kind of important. The right book at the right time is more than just an escape. It's an answer. I would have gone mad tonight if I hadn't had this book. It's as simple as that.

And it's comforting to know that the answer can be as simple as reading the right book. With that knowledge, I might just make it through.

Much love,

50 Book Challenge.

Good Day!

Well here we go then, a post I have been quite excited about writing, but have never quite gotten down to completing! SO let me set the scene for you (Now would be when you go get a cup of tea and come biscuits.. or toast. Or your dinner or something. You know how I love to ramble)

Okay so I have always read a lot. It's not a new thing, it's not a big shock to anybody who knows me, it just is what it is. However last year I found myself taking less time to read and more time to do other things. Mainly Uni related but I just didn't like it. I missed things like the reading challenges I used to do with the school reading group and the books I would read just to challenge myself.

And so this leads me to the 50 Book Challenge! The rules are simple. 50 books, one year to read them, Uni books not included. I will be including re-reads of books, but I will AIM to have these as additional reads, rather than as part of the actual 50!

The List to date includes:
1.The Hobbit-J. R. R. Tolkien
2. Eragon-Christopher Paolini
3. Eldest-Christopher Paolini
4. Brisngr-Christopher Paolini
5. Inheritance-Christopher Paolini
6. The Fellowship of the Ring-J. R. R. Tolkien
7. The Two Towers-J. R. R. Tolkien
8. A Game of Thrones-George R. R. Martin

So as you can see, I'm running a little behind, but there will be times where I will get a lot of my reading done, and times like now, where I will be slowing down.

A bit of me is disappointed that I see 50 books as a challenge. There was a time when I was younger that 100 books would have been a more reasonable challenge. However I suppose that's part of growing up! Times change, responsibilities change, workload changes and I suppose losing touch with the community can have an impact also.

So there you go. I'll aim to do the odd update now and again mainly so that I can keep track of what I'm reading!
If anybody out there reading is partaking in a similar challenge, I would LOVE to keep up to date with how you are doing! I do miss having a frequent chat with folk about books with someone!

Yours with many thanks,

Les mains du Monday #3

Yay for normal continued broadcasting!

Not that this is really for anybodies benefit but mine... but you never know! If I find this kind of thing interesting, perhaps other people do to!

So just a catch up on what happened while I was away, THEY ALL BROKE. Every. Single. Last. One.
Love Nails
Sinful Colours Professional
Midnight Blue
Sinful Colours Professional

Aren't they such pretty shimmery shiney blue colours! Don't know if I have mentioned it or not, but I do love me a bit of shimmer!
Anyway, I'm still using my Sally Hansen polish as explained HERE but because they all broke off, I'm essentially starting a-new :( Such is the life of someone with rubbishy nails!

Anyway! Until next time!
Yours with thanks,

LAN-DAN TIIIIIMES

Salutations! How are we feeling dear blog? I feel like you have been abandoned as of late! Times aren't going to get any less busy over the next few weeks so I figured I would just organise some posts to schedule and then everybody would be happy! Including my study schedule (Who am I kidding, I don't have a study schedule).
Anyway as the title suggests this post is all about my cheeky weekend in London with my mum where we went on many London adventures!!

Just on a side note, the London adventures started like this:
So I suppose I can't really complain. Not that I was going to.

Our main reason for going down was the "Country 2 Country" concert in the O2 Arena on the Sunday. Unfortunately I don't have enough words in my vocabulary to explain how amazingly fantasical the experience was. From getting our seats upgraded randomly to sobbing my little eyes out at two of my favourite artists i think it's safe to say that this was the concert of a lifetime!

The overly excited-ness I experienced skipping through the London Underground was definitely worth it. This was literally a country music lovers DREAM!
The next day was spent trailing about London with Mum. I even managed to get her to go to Camden, something that I never, ever thought would happen! We proved why two overly-tired, cold Scottish women should not be allowed to traverse the London Underground when it's busy. As in, Line closures from Covent Gardens at 4.30. What an unfortunate time to have line closures. Anyway. Needless to say it was a bit too busy for our liking and I ended up being used as a battering ram for a very determined mother. I think we spent a good half hour laughing about it.
Then we went to see the wonder that is Wicked! a third time for me but still as wonderful:

And then we got the sleepy bus back to Glasgow overnight and voila! That was the wonderful weekend of London!

Have any of you been on interesting adventures in London recently? Have any of you seen anything in the 02? HOW BIG IS THAT PLACE!

Much love!

Les mains du Monday #2

Why good afternoon/evening/morning/day to you fine sir/madame/person. It's that time of the week again where we start to long for the weekend that has just passed. Either to chill, spend time with the family, sleep, eat food.... sleep some more... sound familiar??

As the title suggests I'm here to blether about my nails again. Not something I imagine everyone is interested in but I must admit that there have been days where I have been so bored (hiding from uni work) that I will read and enjoy most things. Sometimes you need  a bit of mindless drivel to give your brain a rest eh?!

Here is where you can click to see the previous post on this theme which has the method behind the madness... just on the off chance my dreadful patter has drawn you in... no??

ON WITH THE NAILS THEN!

Clearly I am not a photographer. Or a nail artist.

However I do feel that they have grown slightly faster than they would have done previously... there is still quite a bit of peeling. I suppose I'll just have to grow that out. (shake it out shake it oooout, shake it out shake it ooout WOOOAAAAHHHH) It really is rather annoying.

I just received this little gem in my March Glossybox, for which I will have a post on Wednesday about for anybody who's interested. It's a beautiful dusky rose colour and so far I think it's very pretty.

On a related, but more anecdotal note, I dropped both the Nails inc nail polish and my Sally Hansen nail strengthener tonight with the lid off, then on Saturday night I dropped my trusty little bottle of clear nail polish that I use as a top coat and it went EVERYWHERE.. and there was none left. I was sad. But my grip issues are a story for another time.

Gosh this descended into depressing rather rapidly. Shall we end on a high note??

ONE TWO THREE FOUR

HAKUNA MATATA! what a wonderful phraaaaaase. Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passin' craaaaze! It means no worries for the rest of you daaaaaaaays! Sing it kid! It's our problem freeeeee, philosophyyyyyyy. Hakuna Matata!

If you sang that... I love you.
If you didn't, I still love you anyway.

Many thanks and kindest regards,
Pixiegnome x
